Greater Manchester


Greater Manchester is a metropolitan county in North West England, with a population of 2.7 million. It encompasses one of the largest metropolitan areas in the United Kingdom and comprises ten metropolitan boroughs: Bolton, Bury, Oldham, Rochdale, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford, Wigan,,and the cities of Manchester and Salford.

Cheshire West & Chester and Cheshire East


Cheshire covers 2,343 square kilometres (905 sq mi) and has a population of around 1 million. Major towns include Congleton, Crewe, Ellesmere Port, Macclesfield, Winsford, Northwich and Wilmslow.



Merseyside is a metropolitan county in North West England, with a population of 1.38 million. It encompasses the metropolitan area centred on both banks of the lower reaches of the Mersey Estuary, and comprises five metropolitan boroughs: Knowsley, St Helens, Sefton, Wirral, and the city of Liverpool.



Lancashire is a county in the north west of England. It has a population of 1,449,300. People from the county are known as Lancastrians.

The area under the control of the county council, or shire county, is divided into a number of local government districts. They are Burnley, Chorley, Fylde, Hyndburn, Lancaster, Pendle, Preston, the Ribble Valley, Rossendale, South Ribble, West Lancashire, and Wyre.

Blackpool and Blackburn with Darwen are unitary authorities which form part of the county.
